"Van" J.B. Vander Ark

The yearbook Staff proudly dedicates the 1968 Acrobiblos to Mr. Bernard Vander Ark, now completing his ninth year at La Colina.

An enthusiastic and patient musical director, known for his pleasant personality, he is a favorite among students.

He sacrificed much of his personal time working to help the orchestra and stage band achieve perfection in their numerous performances.

Under his leadership the band acquired first place in the Santa Maria Elks Parade for six consecutive years.

Also a grade of superior for seven consecutive years was achieved by the orchestra at the Music Festival, and this same high grade was earned by the band for four consecutive years.

La Colina presents approximately thirty five musical presentations and parades each year. For each performance several hours of diligent practice must be achieved to meet the high standards set by previous musical programs. All of these practice sessions were under Mr. Vander Ark's guidance.

Talented in the musical field, he plays all instruments in band and orchestra but prefers to play piano.

We, the students of La Colina, wish to show our appreciation by dedicating this record of 1968 to you, Mr. Vander Ark.
